New Lothrop's cold bats continued on Wednesday loosing 2-1 in the opener of a double header to Freeland. Freeland is the number 9 rated team in division 2. New lothrop could only manage 2 hits spoiling a pitching gem by Mallory Heroux
Heroux went 7 innings giving up 3 hits 2 run (0 ER) striking out 9 and walking 4.
The only New Lothrop run came on a solo home run by Victoria Henige in the 4th inning.
New Lothrop had 3 errors and 4 walks on the game witch proved costly in this close game.
After only scoring 2 runs in the last 3 games the hornets finally got the offense going in the second game to secure a 6-5 win. NL scored 6 runs on 10 hits.
Delaney Gross started the game going 4.2 innings giving up 8 hits 4 runs (4 ER) walking 0 and striking out 3. Brianna Heroux came into a pitch the last 2.1 innings getting the win. She gave up 1 hit, 1 run (0 ER) striking out 3.
It took until the top of the 5th before the Hornets offense started to break out scoring 4 runs. B. Heroux started the scoring with a solo home run. NL then scored 3 runs with 2 outs. Damman had a bunt single, followed by singles by Marissa Rombach and Brynne Birchmeier. Orr double on line drive to right field clearing the bases. Freeland scored 3 in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 4. The score remained tied until the top of the 7th when NL scored 2 runs. Rombach singled, followed by singled by Birchmeier and Orr to load the bases. A passed ball scored Rombach. Freeland intentionally walked Henige to load the bases again. Mak Wendling worked a walk scoring Birchmeier to close out the scoring for NL.
The hornets had a balanced offense lead by Rombach going 3-3, with a walk and scored 2 runs. Orr went 2-4 with a single, double and 3 RBIS. Birchmeier went 2-4, Henige went 1-2 with a double and 2 intentional walks. B. Heroux had the lone home run of the game.
New Lothrops record is not 16-7 and they travel to Swartz Creek on Saturday for a tournament
