JH Boys upset Swan Valley at Chesaning Invitational

The JH Cross Country team traveled to Twin Brooks Golf Course for the Chesaning Invitational.Caleb Carlson set the pace for the Hornets placing 2nd overall with a impressive time of 11:30.38 with setting a new record. Lucas Demeter trailed behind with a 3rd place finish with a time of 11:51, and Thad Dumond in 4th place (12:05), rounding up the score was Ryder Andres (12:56), and Kellen Chamberlain (13:20). Also finishing in the top 30 for the Hornets was Brayden Hughes (13:42), and Tyler Keeler (14:01). Boys placed 1st overall and remain undefeated.Allison Demeter finished 7th overall with a time of 14:04.58, following her pace was Ari Olsen (15:15), Raegan Reinhardt (16:15), Mackenzie Thomas (16:23), Scarlett Ryan (16:46), Wren Wickerham (16.52), Gianna Sharpe (17:09), Kinzlie Barber (17:34). Hornets will  be hosting the next invitational at Owosso Speedway, Tuesday, September 16th!  

JH compete at first jamboree of the season

The Hornet boys dominated the first league meet of the season with a score of 21 leaving with a another first place finish and the Lady hornets left with a 2nd place finish.Leading the Hornet boys and winning the race was Caleb Carlson with a time of 12:15.32. Respectable finishes also from Thad Dumond (12:27), Lucas Demeter (12:35), Kellen Chamberlain (13:45), Ryder Andres (14:01) who all placed in the top 10 for the meet. Setting the pace for the Lady Hornets was Allison Demeter placing 9th with a time of 15:32.61. Trailing behind her was Anna Olsen (15:44), Ari Olsen (15:44), Elaina Bruff (15:57), and Raegan Reinhardt (16:12). Hornets are traveling to Twin Brooks Golf course on Thursday for the Chesaning Invitational.

Varsity Cross Country competes at 1st MMAC Jamboree

The NL varsity cross country team competed in their first MMAC jamboree meet this season. The NL girls team tied with Birch Run for second place. Leading the lady Hornets was Sydney Knieper in 3rd place with a time of 21:44. Also contributing to the team score was Ali Hunt (11th -23:27), Ava Wenzlick (14th -23:50), Laura Sharpe (21st – 26:24), and Miriam Sharpe (27th -27:22). Rounding out the rest of the team was Makenna Gemalsky (28:06), Elizabeth Hebert (28:57), Abby Burr (29:42), Ava Riehl (30:53) and Audrey Turnwald (30:56).In the boys race, Marshall Kruske led the Hornets placing 23rd with a time of 20:11. Hornets Down Montrose in 3

The New Lothrop Hornets kicked off their season with a commanding performance, sweeping the Montrose Rams in three straight sets on Thursday. The Hornets won all three sets by a score of 25-0.The team's offense was powered by 24 kills and 8 aces. Danielle Birchmeier led the charge with a standout performance, tallying 15 kills and 2 blocks. On defense, Evelyn Countegan was a force, leading the team with 15 digs.The decisive win sets a strong tone for the Hornets as they begin their 2024 campaign. The Hornets will take on Byron, Tuesday, September 9th at 6:30 PM.

New Lothrop JH Boys take First at Marauder Invitational

New Lothrop traveled to Uncle John’s Cider Mill, Wednesday, September 3rd for the Marauder Invitational.It was apparent the Hornet boys were ready to run on Wednesday. Leading the Hornets was Caleb Carlson who placed 2nd overall with a time of 11:43.22. Impressive finishes also from Thad Dumond (4th) with a time of 11:56, Lucas Demeter (5th) 12:10, Ryder Andres (13:28), Kellen Chamberlain (13:40),Brayden Hughes (14:01) and Tyler Keeler (14:02). New Lothrop had 7 boys in the top 30 and left that day with a 1st place finish overall as a team.Pacing the lady Hornets was newcomer Allison Demeter who placed in the top 30 with a time of 14:33.56, following was Annalise Olsen (14:42), Arianna Olsen (15:11), Elaina Bruff (15:12), and Leah Birchmeier (16:13).Hornets are traveling to Taymouth Park on Tuesday, September 9th for the first league meet on the season.

Mallory Heroux Sets Career Wins and Strikeouts Records for NL Softball.

Mallory Heroux is only a Junior and has set 2 milestone New Lothrop softball records this year with career wins and strikeouts.  The career wins for NL softball was 51 set back in 1979-82 seasons.  The career strikeout record was 409 set in 87-90.Heroux is a 3 year varsity starter.  As a Freshmen she we 13-10 with a 164 strikeouts, 91 hits and 1.551 ERA.  Her sophomore year she went 20-5 with 184 strikeouts, 128 hits and ERA of 2.195.  Currently for the NL varsity softball team, she is 20-5 with 216 strikeouts 92 hits and a 1.888 ERA.Her current career totals are 53 wins, and 564 strikeouts.  

Henige's hot hitting and Heroux hurls the Hornets to 9 straight victories

New Lothrop varsity softball has been on a tear the last week winning 9 straight games all in shortened mercy victories.Victory Henige has lead the hitting attack in the streak batting .750 with 16 hits 7 doubles a triple and 10 RBIs.  Mallory Heroux has won all 9 games in the circle only giving up 1 earned run striking out 77 girls with and ERA of .204 and the opposing team batting average against her of .136The streak started with a 12-1 win over Onway.  Henige went 3-4, Ava Thorsby, Addison Phillips, and Heroux each collect 2 hits.  Alexandria Knieper had 3 RBIs, Heroux 2 and Thorsby 2.They continued the streak with 10-0 and 17-2 wins over Mt. Morris.  Henige had 4 hits and Heroux 2.  The Hornets walked 22 times on the day.The Lady Hornets traveled to Durand and handed the Railroaders to losses 12-0 and 20-7.  Ashlyn Orr lead the team with 6 hits followed by Henige and Savanah Knieper with 5 hits.  A. NL Varsity Softball vs. Byron Area High School

The Lady Hornets traveled to Byron on Tuesday and came away with a double header sweep.The Hornet won the first game 5-3 thanks to a dominant performance by Mallory Heroux in the circle.Heroux started the game and got the win.  She went 7 innings giving up 3 runs only 1 earned, 5 hits 1 walk and striking out 11The hornets waited until the 3rd inning before scoring.  Savanah Knieper singled, stole 2nd and the Henige drove her in with a single. Alexandria Knieper would plate Ashlyn Orr and Elizabeth Hebert later in the inning with a single.  NL would score 2 more in the 4th.  Ava Thorsby lead off with double stole 3rd and then scored on a passed ball.  Anna Lucius would lay down a sacrifice but to score the 5th run.Henige, Thorsby and S Knieper each had 2 hits.  A. Knieper had 2 RBIs, Henige and Lucius had an RBI each.  The Hornets stole 8 bases in the game S. Knieper, and Orr had 2 each. The 2nd game end in a 15-1 mercy thanks to some hot hitting

New Lothrop Softaballs Wins Marlette Softball Invitational

New Lothrop Softball traveled to Marlette on Saturday and came home victorious winning the tournament.Strong hitting by Victoria Henige and Ashlyn Orr propelled  the Hornets to a 14-4 victory against Croswell-Lexington in the first game.  Both of these ladies collected 3 hits in the game with Henige contributing 4 RBIs and Orr 2.  New Lothrop scored in every inning of the 6 inning mercy win.The first inning they got the scoring started when Savanah Knieper singled, followed by a Henige double and Orr single.  Makenna Gemalsky took one for the team in the second inning when she was hit by a pitch and advanced to 3rd on a couple wild pitch.  She would be knocked in when Alexandria Knieper grounded out.  The Hornets would score 2 more in the 3rd with only one hit in the inning.  Orr lead off with a single, Mallory Heroux reached on an error and they would both advance around the bases do to passed balls.  Orr and Henige would each drive in a run in

The Hornets swept the visiting Panthers on Monday 9-5 and a 5 inning mercy 11-1 in the nightcap.Alexandria Knieper had a big day at the plate going 3 for 4 in the first game including a HR, 2 doubles, 3 RBIs and scored 2 runs.  The Hornets fell down 1 nothing in the top of the first but rallied back to score 3 of their own.  Victoria Henige and Ashlyn Orr each singed then Knieper double scoring 2 runs.   Ava Thorsby followed with a single scoring Knieper.    NL would go up 8-1 in the 2nd when Aubrie Sevello-Hassled reach on an error Anna Lucius bunted her to 2nd. Mallory Heroux was dominant in the circle on Wednesday with 2 complete games wins.  Heroux struck out 12 batters in the first game on the way to a 4-1 win and 13 batters in the second game with a 2-0 winHeroux gave up 3 hits, 2 walks and one un-earned run including the 12 strikeouts in the first game.  The Hornets got the scoring started in the 3rd inning when Heroux lead off the inning with a singled then walks to Victoria Henige, Ashlyn Orr, Aubrey Sevello-Hassled scored a run.  Makena Gemalsky walked followed by a single by Anna Lucius scoring another run.Orr lead the Hornets in the first game going 3-3.  Hassled, Orr, Gemalsky and Lucius had an RBI, and Henige walked 3 times In the nightgap Heroux threw a complete game shutout striking out 13, giving up 2 hits and no walks.  The Hornets scored in the first inning when Ava Thorsby lead of the inning with and walk and then scored on a double by Henige.  The bottom of the 2nd  Gemalsky and Luciu

New Lothrop Volleyball Falls in District Final Against Millington

The New Lothrop Hornet volleyball team saw their season come to a bittersweet end in the district championship match Thursday night, falling to Millington in a thrilling four-set contest. The Cardinals claimed the district title with scores of 31-29, 25-12, 19-25, and 25-21.  The Hornets showed grit and determination throughout the match, highlighted by standout performances from several players. Senior outside hitter Ashlyn Orr led the charge with a dominant 15 kills, 17 digs, and one ace. Orr's ability to find gaps in Millington's defense kept New Lothrop competitive in the back-and-forth battle.  Right-side hitter Remington Knieper added firepower to the Hornets' offense with 11 kills, complemented by 3 blocks and 12 digs. New Lothrop Volleyball Wins in Back-to-Back Matches to Secure District Finals Spot

The Hornets showed their determination this week, earning victories in two critical matches to advance to the district finals.  In the first round, the Hornets defeated the Chesaning Indians in straight sets, 25-12, 25-14, 25-10. Cassie Green led the offensive charge with 9 kills and 2 aces, while Remington Knieper delivered an all-around performance with 5 aces, 6 kills, and a block. Ava Thorsby anchored the defense with 16 digs and added 3 aces, and Ashlyn Orr was a consistent force at the net with 8 kills, 2 aces, and a perfect 3.0 passing average to keep the Hornets in control.  The district semifinal against the Reese Rockets was a closer battle, but New Lothrop emerged victorious in four sets, 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22. Lieu Vincke led the boys team, coming in 12th place with a time of 18:13. The New Lothrop cross country team competed at the MMAC Jamboree #3 hosted by Ovid Elsie.  The boys team finished 5th overall with a score of 97. Lieu Vincke led the boys team, coming in 9th place with a time of 17:55.
