New Lothrop softball split a double header with Imlay City on Thursday.  The Hornets lost the first game in 8 innings 5-4.

Mallory Heroux started the game and went all 8 innings taking the loss.  She gave up 5 runs (3 earned) on 8 hits striking out 4 and walking 2.

The Hornets got the scoring started in first when Delaney Gross lead off with a single, followed by a single by Victoria Henige which advanced Gross to 3rd.  Gross stole home later in the inning to get the scoring started.  Imlay City took the lead in the bottom of the 4th 2-1.  NL tied the game in the top of the 5th when Brianna Heroux hit a solo home run.  The Hornets took the lead in the top of the 6th with a double by Marissa Rombach, single by Ash Orr and a sac fly by Mallory Heroux.  Imlay city would knot the score up in the bottom of the 6th.  The game went to the 8th tied 3-3 and internatinal tie breaker was used.  NL could only manage 1 run in the top of the 8th whne Brynne Birchemeir had a rBI single.   Imlay city scored 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game.

Orr and B. Heroux each had 2 hits in the game

In the night cap NL put their hitting shoes on collecting 16 hits to win the game 13-8.  Orr drove in 4 runs with 4 hits in the game including a 2 run home run in the 6th.  She also tallied RBI singles in the 2nd and 7th innings.

NL score 3 in the first inning.  Gross lead off with a double followed by a single by Henige and another double by Birchmeier to drive in 2 runs.  Rombach hit a sac fly to drive in the 3rd run of the inning.  The Hornets would score 5 in the second inning.   B Heroux walked, followed by a Sara Dammann single, Gross walked, the Henige doubled scoring 2 runs, Birchmeier hit a sac fly and then Rombach double each driving in a run.  Orr finished the scoring by singling in Rombach.  NL added 2 runs in the fifth.  Orr lead off with a single, Kennedy Birchmeier singled,  B. Heroux walked and then a run scored when Dammann was hit by a pitch.  NL would score the 2nd run of the inning when Henige walked with the bases loaded.  In the 5th NL would score 2 more runs thanks to a 2 run home run by Orr.  The hornets would round out there scoring in the 7th with singles by Gross, Henige and Orr.

Gross started in the circle and got the win.  She gave up 7 runs (6 earned), 10 hits striking out 6 and walking 2.  B. Heroux threw an inning of relief giving up 1 hit 1 run and walking 2.

The hornets were paced by Henige with 3 hits 2 walks 3 RBIs and scored 3 runs in 5 plate appearances, Orr went 4-5 on the day with 4 RBIs and a home run,  Gross, Rombach and Dammann each collected 2 hits.
