Home Game 1 vs Byron Wednesday 5/17 

New Lothrop defeated Byron 11-10 on Wednesday thanks to a walk-off groundout.  The game was tied at ten with New Lothrop batting in the bottom of the fifth when Elizabeth grounded out, scoring one run. There was plenty of action on the basepaths as NL collected nine hits and Byron had two. Byron opened up scoring in the first inning, when #4 drew a walk, scoring one run. After Byron scored two runs in the top of the third, New Lothrop answered with two of their own.  Byron scored when an error scored one run for Byron.  NL then answered when Rory singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run and Mikalah singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. New Lothrop put up five runs in the second inning.  Sophie, Makenna, and Savannah each drove in runs during the inning. Mikalah was the winning pitcher for New Lothrop 7/8 2023. The righty allowed two hits and two runs over two and two-thirds innings. Jayde started the game for New Lothrop. Jayde went one and one-third innings, allowing eight runs on zero hits and striking out one. Makenna went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead New Lothrop in hits.

Game 2 Home vs Byron 

New Lothrop built a five-run lead in the fourth inning and then held off Byron's charge for an 11-10 victory on Wednesday.  Byron scored four runs in the failed comeback on a error, a single by #16, a groundout by #3, and a wild pitch during #2's at bat. Both pitching staffs had their hands full, frequently dealing with runners on base. NL collected seven hits and Byron had seven. Byron captured the lead in the first inning.  An error scored two runs for Byron. New Lothrop knotted the game up at four in the top of the second inning. New Lothrop took the lead for good with five runs in the third inning.  In the third Rory reached on a dropped third strike, Gabby drew a walk, scoring one run, and Addy drew a walk, scoring one run. Byron scored four runs in the fifth inning.  Savannah earned the win for New Lothrop. The righty went five innings, allowing ten runs on seven hits, striking out 11 and walking one. Makenna went 2-for-3 at the plate again to lead New Lothrop in hits.  NL stole 11 bases during the game as four players stole more than one. Anna led the way with three.
 

Overall the Hornets were able to execute plays, at bats & FINISH, to pull out 2 wins over Byron. They will face off with Durand on Friday May 19 at home.
