New Lothrop softball won its first regional title since 1997 on Saturday by defeating Lakeville 7-4 and Cass City 3-2.

The Hornets fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first but battle back scoring 4 in the bottom of the first with 2 outs.  Brynne Birchmeier singled followed by a Marissa Rombach double to get the scoring started.  Mallory Heroux doubled, Ashlyn Orr tripled and the Brianna Heroux singled to finish the scoring int the bottom of the first.  NL would score another in the 2nd thanks to a double by Delaney Gross, single by Victoria Henige and sacrifice fly by Birchmeier.  The 5th and 6th inning NL would add insurance runs.  In the fifth Henige lead off with a single, followed by a Birchmeier single and a Rombach sac bunt.  Brianna Heroux homered in the 6th to finish out the scoring.

Mallory Heroux pitched a complete game in the circle getting the win.  The sophomore right hander allowed nine hits 4 runs striking out 7 and walking none,

The Hornets had 2 hits in the game.  Henige, Birchmeier and Brianna Heroux had 2 hits apiece.  Rombach and B. Heroux each had 2 RBIs

The Hornets faced Cass City in the regional final winning a nail biter 3-2.

Neither team could get much going at the plate in a pitchers dual.  NL collected only 5 hits in the game but were fortunate enought to have 2 of those hits being home runs.  Sara Dammann hit a 2 run bomb in the 2nd inning and Victoria Henige hit a solo shot in the 3rd.  Henige had 2 hits, M. Heroux, Rombach and Dammann each collected 1 hit.

The hornets were cruising with a 3-0 lead going into the 6th.  Cass City would score a run in the 6th and left the base loaded to end the inning.  Cass City would score another run in the 7th inning making it 3-2.  Cass City ended the game with the bases loaded. Delaney Gross squeezed the final out catching the fly ball to left field to start the celebration.
