New Lothrop Softball Wins Fourth Consecutive District Title

NL Softball won its fourth consecutive district title on Saturday in convincing fashion. The Hornets dispatched rival Montrose 10-1 and then defeated Perry 12-0 in a 5 inning mercy
Marissa Rombach lead the hornets in both games driving in 4 runs in both games.
Brianna Heroux got the scoring started for the Hornets against Montrose in the bottom of the 2nd when she hit a 2 run bomb. NL would score 3 more in the 3rd thanks to a double by VIctoria Henige, walk by Brynne Birchmeier. Rombach doubled scoring 2 runs and then would steal home later in the innning to put the hornets up 5-0. The hornets big inning came in the bottom of the 6th when they put up 4 runs. Sara Dammann lead off the inning with a bunt single followed by a single by Delaney Gross, walks to Henige and Birchmeier forced in a run. Rombach singled in 2 more run and the hornets finished out the scoring when Ash Orr singled later in the inning.
Mallory Heroux got the start and the win. The sophomore hurler went 6 innings giving up 5 hits 1 run (0 earned) walking 1 and striking out 10. Gross threw one inning of relief striking out 2.
New Lothrop had 11 hits 4 walks and 8 stolen bases on the day. Orr lead the team going 3-4, 1 RBI, scored 1 runs and stole 2 bases. Henige had a single, double and a walk. Rombach had a single, double, walk, 4 RBIs, stole 2 bases including home. B. Heroux hit a 2 run home run
In the district final NL kept the bats going against Perry collecting 12 hits in the 12-0 5 inning mercy
The hornets got the scoring started in the bottom of the 2nd when M.Heroux, Orr both singled and B Heroux doubled driving in 2 runs. Dammann flowed Heroux with a double of her own to put the Hornets up 3-0. NL put the game away in the 3rd inning scoring 9 runs sending 13 players to the plate. Henige single to start the inning followed by a Birchmeier double, Rombach triple scored the first 2 runs. Then with 2 outs the flood gates opened and Hornets scored 7 more runs. Dammann, Ava Thorsby, and Gross had 3 consecutive singles, Henige walked followed by a Birchmeier single and and Rombach double to close out the scoring and putting NL up 12-0

Rombach had a double, triple and 4 RBIs, Dammann had a single, double and 3 RBIs, and Birchmeier had single, double 2 RBIs and scored 2 runs.
The Hornets move on to regionals in Chesaning where they will face Lakeville
